Would go with Ken on this one Peter, better to use a piece of ptfe if you
can get it. Nylon will suffice but it needs to be of a decent quality. If I
can get in touch with a friend of mine, I will ask where he got the nylon
from for the Pony bearers on his2-6-0. Can't promise as he is in New Zealand
for 6 weeks!

Perhaps it is different in the UK but in NA cutting boards are typically
HDPE (High Density Poly-Ethylene) and not Nylon. HDPE provides lower
friction and better abrasion resistance than Nylon but it is not as hard nor
as strong.
