I was a fan of the hot rod and dragstrip crowd during the 1950s... I recall
one seemingly learned article in a magazine which proported to "prove" that no
automobile transmitting power through the wheels could exceed a speed of 160
miles at the end of a quarter mile drag race. It is not all that uncommon
today for the top "funny cars" and "slingshot dragsters" to end their quarter
mile race going twice that fast.
