I remember reading an advert in 'The Age' newspaper in Melbourne in the mid
1960s for assembly
line workers at the Holden factory in Dandenong. Part of the advert read 'No
English required for
this job'.
This was at the time of the £10 immigration scheme and there were lots of
southern Europeans
taking advantage of the cheap fare for a new life.
A bit like the UK these days.
