[modeleng] Nostalgia-as it is quiet

I recently aquired some Mechanics magazines from the late 40's-early 50's.
I am sure most of us will recall Whiston's. I see that he was a member of
Stockport MES, and hence an active model engineer. (Why on earth didnt I buy
more from him when he was around?!!!)
Some of the comments the "experts" made back then made me smile.
A new factory is to be built in Australia for the new Holden car. It will
eventually be able to produce 20,000 cars a year, but where a market would
be found for such a vast number of cars is not yet known.
The new Rover Jet 1, the worlds first jet powered car took to the road for
the first time (It is now in the Science Museum).
It can go from 0 to 60 in under 15 seconds, a rate of acceleration that
exceeds anything that any motorist would require.
The first experimental nuclear power station to produce electricity was
announced.
This will be so cheap that electricity will be free, consumers just paying a
nominal charge for the connection.
<OK, I'll have some ! lol>
