Got to admit, I have never heard of Gordon the big blue *&^%$£ called that
before. I have to admit, I like the engine, although a lot of crews can't
get on with it.
The yard at Bridgnorth has been closed for quite a few years now. It is all
down to H&S with the open pits, welding activities, loco movements, coaling
and general uneven ground, I can't remember an accident to a member of
public in the yard except for a little cub scout who didn't see the pit full
of water. He wasn't hurt but a little damp and had an ear bending off Akela
for wandering off. Like you say it is sad that this had to happen but our
insurance company didn't want to be paying out compensation.
The idea of the engine house is that the public can get close to these
beautiful machines as well as being a museum that tells the story of the
SVR. I don't know if the severe weather conditions have done any damage to
the Engine house area but Highly had a major land slip which has blocked a
cutting and washed the up starting signal down the bank.
Dave.

Hi Dave
The 'gentlemans racing machine' is apparently the name by
which a lot of people know 600 'Gordon'. At least the crew
of the prarrie tank both refered to it by that name when I
visited the line at the end of May. Why is it that visitors
are not allowed into the yard at Bridgenorth? So many
railways these days are shuting the yards and claiming
health and saftey. Spoils the fun and takes away a large
part of the experince for the younger generation.
