Hello everyone
Two of us visited the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton (near
Aylesbury) today, to view the Napier weekend. What a treat! There were a
number of vintage cars, including Napiers, and the superb Napier - Railton
Special, in which John Cobb reached 143mph in 1933. This was powered by a
12 cylinder version of the Napier Lion aero engine. To our deilght, this
racing car was driven (relatively sedately) around a large parking area.
We travelled in a train powered by the mighty Deltic Napier diesel-electric
engines. We also greatly enjoyed travelling on a train with a 5" guage
model engine around the half-mile circuit passing through the delightful
woodlands of the Aylesbury Model Engineering Society.
There were many static displays of full-sized locomotives, including the
carriages of a Royal train of 1901, and the splendid train used by Winston
Churchill and General Eisenhower during WW2. All of this spread over a 25
acre site!
Altogether a happy day!
I have a few pics - if you are interested, contact me with your email
address and I will send the to you.
Cheers! Hubert
