[modeleng] Re: Nameplate niggles

Patrick,

Over here in the former British Colony of America, we call the process "lost
wax", but waste wax will be the same. I think the plates would be best cast
of brass for appearance's sake and the Tel process sounds great even if the
bloke is a fuzzy lipped Orstralian maniac!

I have used the Thermit® process to weld full size railroad rails and it
works beautifully, but as has been stated, it gets hot, very hot and does it
in a hurry! The rail molds had a 1/8" thick steel disc in the bottom of the
hopper and when the Thermit burned down to the disc, it melted it away and
they whole hopper of molten steel suddenly fell through and filled a 1/2"
wide gap between the rails.
