Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm inclined to agree with the M5.5 or M6 x
1.0 but something else has ocurred to me. The grubscrew on this gear is
installed opposite the keyway, meaning that when run home the grubscrw will
bugger the motor shaft, which I would like to avoid, so I'm going to dispense
with trying to match this screw and tap for a new one over the keyway. Better
to bugger the key than the shaft IMHO.

The bandsaw conversion involves combining a 3/4hp/1725rpm motor and 20:1
right-angle gearbox to give a 86rpm "motor" speed and then drive the blade via
V-belt pulleys. It is probable that in order to achieve the speed steps I seek
I'll end up building step pulleys from individual pulleys. My next task will
be to make a final decision on what blade speeds I will want. With a 18tpi HSS
blade my present bandsaw (a typical inexpensive Asian 4x6) will cheerfully cut
virtually anything I throw at it at 220fpm (or so it says on the spec-plate) so
I think that will be my base blade speed. At the moment I'm thinking 150, 225,
and 275fpm. I know that slower speeds, as low as 50fpm, appear in blade speed
guidelines but frankly I've been running at 220fpm for years and aside from
slowing that for SS and such my blade life has been excellent.

Harry
