Also, take a look at the Newton Tesla web site here: http://www.newton-tesla.com/index2.htm They are very helpful people and have kits especially for Myfords , a phone call will put you on the right track.......... I bought my 'bare bones' Hitachi inverter from them years ago, and it's still going strong and I'm about to transfer the Motor and Inverter to my new (to me!) milling machine. Very nice people to deal with. Barry PS - the motor didn't come from N-T, I got a good deal on that from my local Electrical Wholesaler.. -----Original Message----- From: modeleng-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:modeleng-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Houston Sent: 13 July 2008 20:43 To: modeleng@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [modeleng] Re: Myford ML7 motor replacement Tony An IM B34 mounting is, essentially, a flange-mounted motor which may - but not necessarily will - have feet as well. An IM B3 mounting is a foot mounting, which is suitable for the Myford. I would, however, suggests that a single-phase motor for use in your ML7 should have a resilient mounting, which - as far as my information goes - isn't an IM B3. For real flexibility of use, smoother running than a single-phase, more starts per hour capability and other functionality (such as soft-start and dynamic breaking), I'd always recommend 3-phase/Inverter over 1-phase, irrespective of more cost for the former. Since you already have a 3-phase motor (assuming it can be connected in delta) you'd only need the Inverter. Judging by the price that Home and Workshop Machinery are charging for new Brook-Crompton motors to suit Myfords, the inverter is about the same price. Of course, you can buy cheaper motors - - - - - but quality ? I suggest you check some manufacturer's web-sites. Although I would like to put the original 3-phase motor that it also came with back, it would seem that I can buy a new single phase motor cheaper than I can a 3-phase to single phase inverter, or even the bits to make one, but I need to know what foot the motor should have however. I can have either a B3 or a B34, apparently, whatever that means ... Would someone please be kind enough to steer me in the right direction and let me know what I should be buying?
