[modeleng] Re: Model Engineers Laser Company

Hi All,

Just returned from Guildford with it's close resemblance to the Somme! I
have been going every year since 1974 and have seen nothing like it before.
I used to reckon that Glastonbury was always muddy and Guildford was always
sunny - it is today but clearly wasn't yesterday. Several of the expected
traders were missing but subject company were there.

I did not get a chance to speak to the guy on the stand but the brass tender
and steel tender frames looked very impressive and reasonably priced for the
amount of work saved. Incidently I have just taken delivery of some laser
cut buffer stop frames from PNP and having tried to separate the pieces
using my bandsaw, I can confirm that there was definately some hardening of
the edges but it was really quite shallow.

Finally I returned from my holiday inthe NE of England a few days ago (a bit
early because of my wife getting a very painful dose of shingles) Thanks to
the earlier suggestions of the group and a bit of local research I managed
to visit:

The cottage where George Stephenson was born.
Gilling East Model Engineers
Beamish Museum
Locomotion at Shildon
South Shields Lakeside Miniature Railway
Orchard Farm Lakeside Railway
Alnwick Station (Now a massive secondhand bookshop)
The National Railway Museum
Ribblehead Viaduct
and by steam on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway into Whitby.

Truly my carbon footprint was large but it's only once a year.

Dennis
