[modeleng] Re: Metrication abandonded by EU

Hi All,

What was the interesting thing in the EU Report was the statement from the
EU Commissioners that the British Inspectors were over zealous of their
prosecution of people not complying with the regulations by selling goods in
Imperial.
Instead of applying common sense they insisted on taking Market Traders and
Shop Keepers to Court and having them fined.

We seem to have more and more Jobsworths.

In the fishing industry down in here in Cornwall the DEFRA Inspectors who
check on landing quotas are so over zealous they are called Nazis and are
actually causing fishing crews to give up fishing because of the
intimidation. One boat was fined £5000 for just coming into Port and landing
fish at 6am when there was not an inspector on duty. This was regardless of
the fact that, that was the time when the Tide came in.

I bet that the French and Spanish don't bother if a boat catches a few fish
over the quotas but down here crews are having to throw tons of dead fish
over the side before entering Port if they have caught too many of the wrong
type of fish.
At the moment one of the major Fishing Fleet owners and a major employer is
waiting to see the size of Fine to be imposed because they did land too many
fish and massaged the records. Defra apparently spent months secretly
investigating them . It could put them out of business so what good will
that do if it causes more unemployment.

What people seemed to have forgotten was that we originally signed up for a
Common Market which was a good idea. We did not want to be railroaded into a
United States of Europe which the Politicians have now put us into.

End of Rant.
Regards

Clif
