I've just had a phone chat with one of our club members who informs me that our
best and long-time local source for metals of all kinds, in particular steels,
who formerly would allow individuals to buy drops and short pieces from the
bins, will no longer allow that. All non-saleable material is consigned to a
recycler and we now have to place a formal shop cutting order with a sales
representative and pay full price for the material plus a cutting charge for
each snip. I can see this will require that my previously keen scrounging and
skip-diving skills be raised to a level heretofore never seen in these parts.
Practically speaking of course the thing to do is get together with a few other
folks and make an order of full sticks.
Regards,
Harry
