The all important thing is to make sure that the chimney stands really upright when finished. So take care when setting up for the radius of the base. Nothing looks so odd as a chimney standing at quarter past twelve or leaning to the front. If I remember right the chimney of Elidir is quite long so I suppose the chimney base is a casting without the chimney tube. I would start with the bore and mount the casting on a piece of bar stock. Turn the outside of the base to size and turn the side of the tube to the diameter it should have. It might be possible to turn, as Harry suggested, the smallest radius as well. Mind you this will look odd as only part of the casting will be marked by the tool but will help in finishing the rest of the base. Afraid the rest is the easiest done by filing. This is best done with the base firmly mounted on a mandrel. Tip, slide a thin tube over the part you turned at the stack side or over the mandrel at that side, and work with the file to that tube, it will act as a sort of roller and will prevent you from damaging the turned part. Always work away from the edge at the base and leave a small part of the edge as turned, say 1mm wide. Avoid if possible filing towards the edge as when the file slips the edge is prone to be damaged And now lots of elbow grease and patience ..
