W. S. Gilbert put it very succinctly in 'The Gondoliers' 

'When everyone is somebody,
No one is anybody'

These days, the government want 50% of people to go through higher 
education. Obviously, the only way that means anything is to reduce the 
standard, which is why we have degrees in 'Leisure Centre Management' 
while engineering departments have to run remedial math courses for 
engineering students with A grade math passes.

All this is so b****** obvious, and yet still dogma rules!
