Crankpin turning with the portable machine reminded me of the quartering
machine at the Durango and Silverton shops in Colorado. It was capable of
reboring wheel crankpin holes, but also had a hollow cutter that allowed it
to remachine the OD of crankpins while quartering them or just cleaning them
up because of heat checks or scoring.
