[modeleng] Re: Larger Matters - epoxy glue

Harry,

I started top stock the item only after getting a number of requests ex the
Old Antique Engine guys were asking for it.

I have heard it used for many applications over the years. I also have put
it through its paces so I can give informed information about its uses.
Since starting to use around home here I have only found that one problem
with it.

I have seen it used to build up castings, old crankshaft, pistons etc. One
neat experiment is to glue the top of two valves together for people to try
and pull or break apart with their hands. Not possible so far.

When I first tried it here I rough machined a piece of steel and left the
machine marks in some places and grooved others. I then back filled and when
the glue had gone off after 24 hrs I machined it. What impressed me was that
the epoxy stayed in the light machine mark area and did not get 'pulled out'
by the machining process.

I have this policy that I will not sell anything than I will not use in my
own workshop. That way if/when I close up I can transfer most of the items
to my own shop.

John
