This being the case, it is suitable for making firing
scale model cannon barrels?

Duhhh! Al, if the stuff is called gunmetal, one would suppose it to be
good for GUN BARRELS. Actually, I loaded up a barrel with a large charge of
ffffg powder and a 5/16" steel rod about 3" long for a projectile and
touched it off with a loooooong fuse. Nice bang and everything held
together. The instructions for the sundial say to use ffffg powder w/no
projectile or wadding and you will get a very satisfactory bang.
