[modeleng] Re: Lapping, pumps, etc was

Alan,
I would expect gunmetal to have a lower tin content (what I call a low
bronze) than the "yellow" bronzes. We have something called "red brass"
which is poured as a staple metal by a lot of non-Fe foundaries over here
and bears a resemblance to gunmetal.
Regards,
Harry

Harry, et al, that "red brass" is the stuff the foundry down near Memphis
used to pour for me and it is what the owner said was SAE 40. Prior to them
using the SAE 40 for my sundial cannon barrels, they had been using yellow
brass which looked better. However due to our benevolant gumment's EPA
regulations, they had to quit using the yellow brass because of the smoke
from zinc burn-off.
