[modeleng] Injector problems

Here's a new one for you! Explain this!

We had a very busy weekend at the Lackham Museum and Woodland Railway with
single Fairlie Tinkerbell (#4) peforming sterling service. There was
however one minor problem on day 1 in that the injector clack would leak
back through the injector. This meant that it was difficult to get the
injector to pick when required. At the start of day 2 I cleaned the clack
through and ensured there was no debris and that the ball was clean.
However that had no effect on the leak!

My son however found a solution, if you cool the clack (note clack, not
injector!) then the ball will seat and the leakage stops!

Is it possible that the cooling of the clack body somehow corrects a
distortion and the ball seats properly? Would it be any better if I
replace the steel ball with a nitrile one to allow for what might be a
slight distortion in the clack body/ball seat?

Cheers

Peter
