[modeleng] Going round the bend

When going from a straight track to a curve, one should build in a
transition curve, to make the change gradual rather than abrupt.
One can get a reasonable approximation to a transition curve by using a
series of short curves of gradually increasing radius.
A decent CAD program will draw one, which could then be scaled, and made
using a table of offsets.
However, there is a formula to calculate transition curves which I learned
many years ago, and, naturally have totally forgotten.
Can anyone tell me what it is?
