Alan pretty much put it in a nutshell in his post.  The business closed due to 
an illness and never reopened.  So far as I know it was never offered as a 
going concern, just the liquidation of the works, which were considerable.  
Fyne Fort was the off-season business of a family-owned boatyard on the I.O.W.

I bought fittings from them for a mail order business for about 10 years 
beginning about 1990 and I gather I was his largest US customer.  I ordered at 
least twice a year and orders generally came quickly and as ordered . . . for a 
few years.  Then things began to slow down and even the most common "stock" 
items began to be back-ordered or "will be run next week."  In the last year I 
dealt with them no stock was ever shipped.  I never lost any money, except from 
lost sales due to lack of stock.

It was an unfortunate turn of events because most of the range of fittings were 
a decent value for the price, although a few fitting designs simply didn't 
work, small scale safety valves being one.  In the last couple of years of 
operation John Lockwood had great plans for expansion of the line and on-line & 
CD catalogueing but none of that came to pass.
