Harry,
I have been known to tap one of my safeties that wants to blow down too far,
but I usually do it with the hand pump handle from the tender pump. A light
tap on the extended stem and it will snap right back shut. Maybe the guy at
C&T learned from me?
That weird locomotive from Arkansas ran way before I joined the MSLS so I
don't know what test(s) it might have had. I just wish I had a photo of it
as it was rather unbelievable! That wagon top was made by splitting a 6"
pipe lengthways, bending the front end together some way and welding it on
top of the main boiler. From the end it was sort of (8) shaped to some
extent. Welding looked none too smooth either ,but that danged thing ran
like a haint except for a few stops to reshape the link motion. The boiler
might have been hell for stout, but I seriously doubt that he would even be
allowed to unload it these days.
