BATMAN (Keith),
When you were by here this spring, you should have asked me about keeping
two sets of files, one for brass and the other for ferrous metals. Just
like I have a set of drills sharpened for brass, I have files used on
nothing but brass. Both "special" sets have yellow paint on them so I won't
accidentally use them on the wrong material. Actually, there are four sets
of drills, two each of wire sizes (numbered) and two sets of "Imperial". No
metric crap on the premises!
When I oil a file, I use regular dark (lard sulfur) thread cutting oil or
chalk, but neither is 100% positive about preventing file teeth from
loading. On the file card, you do use it crossways of the file, don't you.
Jesse the REDNECK
Thanks for all the good information on files. I will try the chalk and also
the light oil on a different file. I never thought of keeping separate files
for different metal types. I have one of the file cards at least that is
what I always called it.
