  Hi all,
I'll soon start a pair of whistles for my locomotive and although
I've made several successful whistles merely by eye-balling, they all were
of conventional chamber length to diameter ratios of 3 or 4:1. The
whistles I want to build will want to be rather fat-bodied with a bell
length to diameter ratios of as little as 1:1, egg-shaped, yet still
produce a shreik. My whistles will need to be 18mm and 24mm in diameter.
It occurred to me that this body type might require a little
different, or at least not intuitive, mouth geometry. If anyone has any
experience in this area I'd be very interested to hear your of it.
Hambleton's "Locomotives Worth Modelling" has a number of dimensioned
drawings of the type of whistle I'm after and I'll pattern mine after one
of these.
Lately I ran across a photo of a GWR whistle which hardly had a bell
at all!
