Hubert
Whilst I wholeheartedly endorse your thoughts on Brussels, I have heard this
comment before, and it refers to a postulated effect of a proposed 'consumer
protection' edict from our unelected masters. As a small independent
newsagent, I can assure you that the only thing that stops a newsagent from
stocking a mag is lack of sales! We have had EIM on the shelf for several
months, and have never sold a copy, so at the present time we don't stock
it. But be assured your local newsagent can get it. The big chains and
Tesco won't!! They only stock the very big sellers - I don't have the
figures to hand, but, as in most things, the vast majority of magazine sales
comes from a handful of titles, yet there are more than 3000 magazines
available through the retail chain in the UK. We stock a wide range of
model and prototype railway magazines, as well as those covering the vintage
vehicle markets. We have regular customers now who travel some distance to
pick up copies, and we save some titles for a couple of customers, each of
whom lives more than 30 miles away. So you can get specialist mags in a
small (tiny) village newsagents. But please don't buy one to try it out,
and then subscribe. Your newsagent provided the service in the first place,
and needs your business to survive. Without small independents, many
magazines would go to the wall.

Sorry if this appears off topic, but ME mags are as vulnerable as any.

George
