As Steve says, finding capable places to get small jobs done is
increasingly hard, while new grads just don't get workshop experience.
When my wife was at University, some 25 years ago, her sandwich course
included a 12 week full time workshop practice session. Doesn't happen
now. I wonder if many of the skills will end residing with model
engineers, especially on forums such as this, where I find I can get
answers to most questions. In the old days, we always knew 'Joe' who had
the experience, but there aren't many 'Joes' around now: fortunately, we
have Unka Jesse and Tel and Alan and all the rest.
oh well......
