[modeleng] Re: Elevated track systems

Hello Harry,

The Warrington club track is almost entirely in woodland so a fairly simple
and robust method of track construction has been used due to the risk of
subsidence by root structures.

The track is laid on wooden sleepers laid on concrete beams. The beams are
4" deep x 9" wide x 6 ft. long, they are supported on "Breeze block" pillars
which rest on 3 ft. x 2 ft. paving flags bedded onto finely divided
earth. The flagstones are only a few inches below the surface. The
arrangement has been remarkably sucessful. Over a 30 year period very little
resetting of the piers has been necessary, and this has ben achieved with
relative ease.

Regards,

Barrie
