Hello Al,
Not sure if I agree!
I have bought smaller collections in the past and all you end up with is
a few bits of brass/steel that may be useful and a load of pieces that
the previous owner had plans for, but you have no idea what those plans
might have been!
At best you may get a part built engine or something that helps complete
one of your engines and some useful pieces of metal stock, at worst you
get more castings seasoning under the bench, more "odds and sods" in the
workshop, a mixture of nuts and bolts (that all need sorting!) and a
heap more projects that you may get around to one day....
I've stopped buying "lots" like that I have more than enough projects as
it is:
1. Signalling on the LM&WR - target date for commissioning August 2008.
Actual date, August 2009 if I am lucky!
2. 7.25" 1/3 scale Port Class Hunslet (part built)
3. 7.25" 1/3 scale part built Hudswell Clarke "Junin"
4. 7.25" De Winton vertical boilered locomotive (lots of parts lying
around!)
5. 1964 Rover P4 110 (needs total restoration)
6. 1972 Triumph Stag (owned for a year) needs minor works to be
roadworthy. Target to have it on the road this summer. I haven't
touched it for 6 months!
7. 1973 Hillman Imp, nearly ready for an MOT (that's taken 3 years to
rebuild).
8. Just bought a 1985 Land Rover 110 CSW with a 3.5 Range Rover engine
and gas conversion. Needs a new rear crossmember for the MOT.
You see, I have a speech defect, I can't say the word "No"!
Cheers
Peter
