Subject: Didcot Firefly launch

As you may have heard, Didcot Railway Centre is launching its replica
broad gauge loco "Firefly" this Saturday (30 Apr)

http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/latest_news/latest_news.shtml).

The launch ceremony is at 1200, after which there will be public rides
until 1700, and I will be one of the shunters. The Railway Centre is at
the station, but Firefly is at the far end of the site (800m/0.5mile walk,
or take the other steam train from by the entrance).

Warning: due to engineering works, there will be major alterations to
train services to Didcot. Unfortunately these make the journey from
Cambridge very awkward, but if you're keen to do it, here's how:

The cheap way:
Cambridge 0740 (bus X5 from Drummer Street)
Oxford    1110 1134
Didcot    1145 1624
Oxford    1637 1715 (bus X5)
Cambridge 2100

Warning: last time I used the X5 it had no toilet facilities. At Oxford
buy a Didcot Railway Centre ticket as this combined offer is cheaper than
separate train and admission tickets; if you have a Railcard the total
cost will be 12.89.

If you prefer to go by train:
Cambridge      0745
London    0833 0950 (KX->Waterloo)
Reading   1110 1125
Didcot    1139 1658
Reading   1715 1727
London    1843 1949 (Waterloo->Liverpool St)
Cambridge 2110

While Didcot Railway Centre combined tickets can start from anywhere, only
FGW/FGWL sell them, so to take advantage of this offer buy
Cambridge-Reading and Reading-Didcot separately; total cost with Railcard
24.85.
