Al,
With the hydrostatic cylinder lubricator I sent you drawing of, I have never
had a problem with a slug of water driving out the oil on startup. The
needle valve is opened such a tiny amount that I don't think much condensate
could get by it in the short time involved and soon only hot steam is in the
line. Basically steam is what sneaks past the needle valve and into the
lubricator body to be condensed.
