[modeleng] Re: Crash-Full size.

Joe,

You forgot about the one a couple of years ago when two drivers coming from
opposite directions ran around the closed crossing gates in Memphis. They
managed to hit head on and got both of themselves killed while managing to
bounce their vehicles clear of the tracks and out of the way of the
approaching Norfork-Southern freight train.(goods train to you Brits).

The trailer load of steel pipe was just South of Chicago and as you said,
several people were killed in the derailment but the stupid truck driver
survived. It was nighttime and he said he thought the gates were down for a
switching (shunting) operation, but instead they were for the Amtrak
passenger train that was zipping along towards New Orleans. Two of the
victims were from Memphis as I remember it.

Jesse the REDNECK machinist.

Seems I recall several years ago that a tractor-trailer rig loaded with
steel (pipe or structural) pulled around a clossed crossing gate and into
the path of an AmTrak train. I think several people were killed -- probably
not the truck driver. On a more amusing note, since no one was killed, a
truckload of loose potatos lost its brakes and ran into the side of one of
the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge locomotives. Charles (AKA: Joe
