[modeleng] Re: Couplings and projects

Gents,

I get to read thye list at work but can only reply from home, so I'm
combining two subjects here.

Couplings at Bromsgrove SME are "standardised" in that everyone makes
(or should) an adaptor bar which has two 6mm clearance holes 20mm apart
and is less than 1/8" thick. These will then fit the passenger car
drawgear. If the adaptor fits the coupling hook of the loco it is made
captive so that it can't lift off if the train tries to overtake the loco.
The passenger cars themselves are linked by a plate which allows a small
amount of twist between adjacent cars (so that one can climb the
superelevation into a curve), but in the event of a derailment the
derailed car is constrained by those either side of it.

Projects....

I'm getting near the end of building a driving truck for elevated and
ground level tracks. After that my Metro tank needs the lubricator
fixing (it's stopped feeding). Then I can get on with the Sweet Pea I
started 12 years ago. That's probably between 80 and 90% done, though I
made a rod for my own back by redesigning the valvegear from Hackworth
to Walschaerts. Then I'll be finished, except I've got the frames for a
5" GWR 28xx waiting in the wings (Martin Evans' "Swindon" design)

And that's it!
