Are you sure they had sanders? Most of the locos were narrow gauge and were
never built with sanders, had to be mandraulic sanding if needed!

sanders would work so they had this peon walking along strewing sand on one
of the rails and still the wheels slipped much of the time.  Maybe peon
engineers were in charge also????
