I get Martin sprockets to modify for motorcycle use. I
don't heat treat them at all and they don't wear appreciably
even after 10k miles plus.
Chains tend to stretch rather than show visible wear. You
will probably be changing chains before sprockets just
leaving out the heat treating.
I'd say to just save your time and effort and go with the
sprockets 'as purchased'.
