John,

No doubt we will hear from that mustachioed Ozonian Terry Lane on this as he
has fastened a 6" digital caliper to the cross slide of his lathe to get a
DRO that seems to work just fine.  I hate to bring this up as it will
probably give him a case of oversized ego to explain it to the list.  Ah
well, it is a neat idea, even if he did come up with it.
