Depending on how they are made, the shaft bearings for the platter assembly 
might be useful.  The components which move the read-write heads are basically 
a stepper motor with controls.  FWIW, a stack of platters from a multi-platter 
drive might provide the rotating part of a Tesla turbine...but I don't think I 
would try that with a stack of glass platters...  Charles
