You dont say if they are steel boilers or not? I like to blow down with
about 10-15 psi on the clock. If the engine is not going to be used in the
very near future I blow down completely, if it is to be used within the week
I fill the boiler full and then blow down to a half half glass and then
refill again.
I would find a way of having a look inside if you can. My Baganll had never
been cleaned out and the water space beneath the firetube was full of rust
and 'mud'. This had built up over the years but wasnt detected until the
wash out plugs were remouved.as the blowdown wasnt affected.
Has anyone used water treatment in a copper boiler and are there any
problems with doing so?

The question is very simple, at what pressure do (or should you) you blow
down from?  If you blow down from a too high a pressure can you put thermal
stresses on the boiler? (i.e. rapid cooling)
