Hi Alan
A good starting point would be Russell's 'Pictorial Record of Great Western
Engines' (2 volumes, Oxford Publishing Co, 1975). Although long out of
print, secondhand copies do turn up from time to time - but don't expect to
pick them up cheaply, they are highly prized possessions!
