[modeleng] Re: Barely on-topic as it is quiet

Ok, how many people can light a BBQ safely? How many people can lay a hearth
fire? How many people can light a simple bonfire safely and properly?

I get invited to BBQs just to light them, (ok and cook the grub, my
speciality, ain't given anyone food poisoning yet!!) Peeps are now getting
wise to the dangers of bbqs and lighter fluid, I have never used any
artificial lighting methods, just wood and paper. And my kids call me a
pyromaniac!! (I got a license for it)

Our last steam ran in the 60's, but until 25 years ago, coal was a major
industry and got a lot of publicity.
I can undeerstand the kids not knowing about it, but their parents?
Dont any of them have parents or grandparents who light coal fires?
I guess not, or else they would know about it.

On the other hand, it is a good opportunity for us to educate some of the
public, and perhaps earn ourselves some "Brownie points" and good publicity.

In the states, mainline steam for general operations left circa 1956, when
Norfolk & Western dieselized. That was fifty years ago! The average age in
the USA today is mid-30s...

So, except for railfans or those who happen to live near where steam runs or
has run recently, most have no experience with steam power.
