Hi there All,
Am doing a spot of work on a Rob Roy at the moment, and I have a question
about the ashpan.
On Maisie, there is a metal shield that the ash will drop on, hopefully
cool a bit and then fall ont he track, deflected so that it doesn't get
onto the axle.
On this Rob Roy though, which seems to be built to the plans, there is an
ashpan which is totall enclosed, save for a small rectangular hole at the
top.
Surely on Rob Roy, this grate will clinker up and then have to be removed
to be emptied, and the fire started again; whereas Maisie will be able to
keep on steaming - or am I missing something.
On the other side, the air will probably get into the firegrate easier on
Maisie, but will be cooler, whereas on Rob Roy maybe the air won't flow as
freely, but will get a bit more warmth on it's torturous route in.
...OR...
have I misread the plans, or made some other similar mistake?
Any thoughts gratefully received.
Yours,
Rich.
