Laundry Soda is not the same as Sodium Hydroxide
Laundry soda (sold in UK as "soda crystals" or "washing soda") is
relatively harmless and works well for electrical removal of rust I believe
it is Sodium Crbonate (maybe one of the list chemists can comment)
Sodium Hydroxide is nasty stuff and best avoided, especially in
concentrated solution or powder form. Apart from skin attack it is
especially dangerous in the eyes. It is not needed for electrical removal of
rust.
