Are these also known as laundry soda -- the item called for in the formulas
for electrical removal of rust?
At the time it was done, the largest non-nuclear piecetime explosion in the
world was made using ammonium nitrate in east Tennessee southwest Virginia
to get material for construction of South Holston Dam (which, incidently was
the reason I grew up in east Tennessee). Geological conditions where they
wanted to build the dam would not support the concentrated weight of a
concrete dam, so South Holston was built with a pure red clay core and
limestone boulders on either side of the clay core. And the boulderes
formerly existed as a mountain, until said ammonium nitrate explosion.
