Please remove me from the list Alan. I can stand the off topic posts, and enjoy
them as much as everyone else, but not the racism of this one. A simple
reference to terrorists would have been acceptable, but not in the way it is
expressed here.
Sorry to go, as I learned a lot.

Phill,
Sodium Hydroxide, Lye and Caustic Soda, all the same and all will burn your
skin badly if not neutralized by application of vinegar (Acetic Acid).
Caustic Soda is still sold here in the States as "Lye" and was at one time
added to hog feed to act as a de-wormer and is still used to make home made
soap. Boiling oily materials in Caustic Soda will remove all traces of the
oil by converting the slickum into soap. I used it mixed with Ammonium
Nitrate to blue gun parts quickly and have never tried it on models, but it
will give steel a nice dark blue-black colo(u)r. (Notice I spelt colo(u)r
so you could read it). Actually the Ammonium Nitrate is what blues the
steel, but the Lye is needed to raise the boiling point to the point where
the nitrate can colo(u)r the steel. Ammonium nitrate may be getting hard to
come by because of it is actually an explosive that was discovered to also
be an excellent fertilizer , but now Towel Head sympathizers use it to
forward their agendas.
