For years (and maybe still) Erwin Tennessee was a major site for processing
depleted uraninum. Made it into the cores of armour piercing anti-tank
bullets . . . AND tank armour . . . among other things. The locals (aka
uneducated hillbillys) were assured that, since it was depleted, there was
no danger. I understand, though, that the incidence of cancer in the area
is untypically high. Charles
