Good! I only asked as a friend of mine had a call from his bank a few
weeks ago to say that his card appeared to have been used overseas, but
then a few hours later in the UK. He confirmed that he hadn't been
overseas and that it was illegal activity on the card.

They told him to destroy his card and they'd send him a new one.

He (I think quite rightly) assumed the bank would cancel the card.

Next day, he got another call from his bank saying the card had been used
again in the same area overseas and would he like his card cancelling!!!

Needless to say, he was not best pleased!

Now I know that the banks sometimes like to leave the card uncancelled,
even when they've told you that it's been cancelled, so they they can try
and help catch the fraudsters, but this is at the banks own risk. This
just seems like the bank were being incompetent - or am I and my friend
nieve to assume that the bank should have automatically cancelled it when
they first flagged up the problem?

Yours,

Rich.
PS Trying to keep at least an air of this on topic, has anyone renewed
their subscription to model engineer recently? In previous years I have
waited till the third renewal warning, as they dropped the price each time
they sent the renewal paperwork. Given that it is now being run by a new
company, do we know if they run a similar system of 'rewards' for
late/last minute renewals?
