[modeleng] Re: A little bit of flying kit.

Hi Dave,

Mmmmm, thanks for this - very impressive.

I have recently returned to the model aircraft scene after an absence of
many years. The difference is amazing. The i.c.engine has lost a lot of
popularity - mostly to electric power. The use of Lithium Polymer batteries
and three phase brushless motors has produced a quiet, clean power source
with a reasonable weight. Surprisingly the development of R/C gear has been
less impressive although I have recently spent many hours trying to fathom
out how to programme my new transmitter which has enough "features" to
launch a Space Shuttle.
Model building has almost ceased - most models are bought in big boxes with
the major components finished and painted. Most modellers seem to be simply
installers of radio control equipment. If (when!) a model is broken it is
either scrapped or new component parts are bought.
I just wonder how far down this road we Model Engineers will go?

Barrie
