alright Robert, I'm about to break it down real quick!! alright? let's say you go to a blank pattern in pattern mode, let's say pattern 1, now in this one pattern you have 16 sections it, there labeled Section A through Section P, alright? now every time you record something, no matter what it is, you're always recording these set of loops which are called phrases on the motif, alright?, now phrases can be any length between 1 bar all the way to 256 bars long in 1 pattern, so like you can record a bass guitar on track 1 that can be 4 bars, a piano on track 2 that can be 16 bars, a string part on track 3 which could be 8 bars, and a drum part on track 9 that can be 2 bars if you want, and all this you could have recorded in Section A, now since you recorded these sounds of instruments yourself in pattern mode, there called user phrases, and these user phrases are automatically placed on that track in Section A there you were recording on, alright?, now check it out, now every time you record something it's a user phrase and it automatically goes in this bank called the user bank on the patch screen, I gorget which button that is on the motif x s, but I know it's the f4 button on the motif es, anyway, the reason why they have a user bank for you user phrases that you've already recorded from Section A, you can go to any other section of your pattern, sections B through section P, and patch in those same user phrases into the tracks, so you wouldn't have to record them again you can just fly them in real quick by patching them in off of the patch screen, now let me also throw in that they number these phrases 1 through 256, so you actually have a limit of how many phrases you can record in pattern mode, and they keep them numbered in the user bank on the patch screen, so like the bass guitar I recorded on track 1 is user phrase 1 since I recorded that first, then I recorded piano second and that becomes user phrase 2, and the recorded strings on track 3 which would be my user phrase 3, then I through some drums on track 9 and that would be my user phrase 4, so these user phrases would show up in this order when you try to patch them into the other sections, just make sure you're patching in the same phrase from section A and whatever track to section B and whatever track, so like since I recorded bass guitar on track 1 and that's my first user phrase, I want to make sure that when I go to section B or whatever section you want to patch to, you would patch in that same user phrase 1 which is my bass guitar onto track1, and the piano phrase I recorded on track 2 in section a, I would go to section B and patch in my user phrase 2 piano to track2, and so on!! now check it out, and listen to me closely, lol, now what I just explained, you just got through patching in the same user phrases from section a to Section B, alright?, now if you try to do any type of edits to the phrases, let's say like you wanted to delete a couple of bass guitar notes out on track 1 in section B, what happens whenyou go back to section A, what happens, those same delete notes that you did you the bass guitar user phrase in section B will show up on your bass guitar phrase in section A, now the question is why is that?, that's because that's the same user phrase 1 from Section A that you first patched into section B!! man I sure hope this is understandable!!lol!! now there is a copy phrase in the job menu, but I never mess with that mug, to much hassle, but the copy pattern job that I told you about that evernest did an audio tutorial on?, you can copy a whole pattern and place it into another pattern slot, let's say like, I copy my pattern 1 and I want to copy it to pattern 3, so now I have 2 copies of that pattern in pattern slot 1 and 3, but Ernest didn't show it that way in the tutorial, he showed, how out can copy your whole section within that pattern and place it into another section in that same pattern!! It's that same job the copy pattern job, so it would be like copy pattern 1 section a and copy it to pattern 1 section B and once you execute that job, it will copy all the user phrases that you recorded on tracks 1 through 16 and place them in to section B, now the difference between this way and the patch screen way is, you remember how I started with those 4 user phrases that I recorded in section a and they showed up in the patch screen in the user bank, and how they are automatically numbered in the order of howyou recorded?, and how you're pretty much patching in those same user phrases in the other sections onto the same tracks?, check it out when you do the copy pattern job and you copy pattern 1 section a to pattern 1 section b, this job will actually make duplicates or copies of your phrases, so next time you go to your user bank on the patch screen, you'll have 8 user phrases in there instead of 4 user phrases, it's just the second set of 4 are user phrases 5 through 8, and these are automatically placed on the tracks in section b because that where you copied them to so now when you try to edit these phrase or something, it won't effect the user phrase that you have in section A!! you understand? now why is that, because section a has the original user phrases 1 through 4 on them and section b has the copy of those user phrases 5 through 8 on them!! if you do the copy pattern job, you really have to pay attention with your ears on that patch screen and what phrases are ou patching to what track in what section!! lol! man that was a mouth full!! for me, I don't even bother with that job, I'll just patch in those same user phrases into the other sections and then convert the pattern chain into a song and then do my edits while it's in song mode, that way your not dealing with what user phrase is being effected, you're just dealing with tracks now!! lol! man I hope that was understandable!! If not listen to my pattern chain tutorial again as well as the pattern phrases and tips part 1 and even Ernest's copy pattern tutorial!! I'm pretty sure the concept is the same on the x s, you just have to wrap your thinking process around what's going on!! alright? Driza off this ug!! Peace!!! lol!!!

Hi.
OK. phrases are sections right?
whyy don't they say copy section instead of copy phrase?
or why don't they say phrase A instead of Section a?
Regards Robert.
