[missbirdphotos] Re: A Group Suggestion

Thanks Kristen!

Kildeer do that when perceived danger in the form of birds/animals/people
approach a nest. I wasn't actually very close to a mother with babies when
that one did the broken wing act since I had a long lens, it is cropped a
lot. Most of the pics I got another time of the adult on the nest and the
newly hatched babies including the one I attached I made from inside the
vehicle as the nest was in the edge of the road at the marina at the
Tenn-Tom lock and dam. It was several years ago. I saw another nest last
year but none of the eggs had hatched yet and it was hot and she was
hovering over the nest shading them without being on top of them. Must have
been hard on her legs to stay that way! I'll have to see if I can find that
one. When I went back a few days later they were hatched and gone.

Judy,

I'm just catching up on email. Great captures! I love the baby killdeer.
I am curious as to what the broken wing act is. I recently saw a killdeer
doing this also. Are they known to do this?

Thanks,
Kristen
