Don't miss out on this Thursday's screening of the Loggerhead Shrike. Here's a
lovely review:
"Larry McPherson's beautifully executed film on the activities and
vocalizations of a nesting pair of Loggerhead Shrikes in Arkansas is an
invaluable documentation for scientists and birders alike of the remarkable
life story of a songbird turned predator. To my knowledge no comparable record
exists for this species." Dr Tom J Cade, Professor Emeritus of Zoology, Cornell
University, Ithaca, NY
Filmed over two years in Arkansas "The Loggerhead Shrike" shows the unique
behavior and vocalizations, some never filmed before, of these fascinating
birds. And it follows a pair of Loggerhead Shrikes as they navigate a path with
many dangers to successfully raise a family.

Filmed over two years in Arkansas "The Loggerhead Shrike" shows their unique
behavior and vocalizations, some never filmed before. And it follows a pair of
Loggerhead Shrikes as they navigate a path with many dangers to successfully
raise a family. Larry's correspondence with the world's leading shrike experts
and biologists to research the narration for the film lead to co-authoring an
internationally published paper about the shrike's previously unknown behavior
of removing grasshoppers' digestive tract before consuming the insects.
A discussion will follow with Larry McPherson.
