Oh, yes, for this amount of data you need it.

Besides, operating a 32 bit kernel (where one process can use at most 3.3 GB 
or something like this) on a machine with 32 GB is like attaching wooden cart 
wheels on a Porsche :-)

You definitively *want* to have a 64 bit kernel on such a baby to use it at 
the fullest extend. OpenSUSE is just fine, just take the 64 bit install 
version.
